About The Department

The Center for Translational Data Science (CTDS) at the University of Chicago is a research center dedicated to developing translational data science for impactful problems in biology, medicine, healthcare, and the environment. We aim to provide researchers with access to data and tools for data-driven discoveries, enhancing scientific knowledge and quality of life. We build ecosystems of research data, computing resources, applications, tools, and services for the research community to leverage data at scale for scientific inquiry and discovery. This position is at-will and funded by contractual grants, subject to renewal based on grant provisions and performance.

Job Summary

The Program Manager leads administration of academic, research, clinical, or administrative programs. They support the development of data sharing platforms for biomedical research, coordinating across projects and teams to align with the CTDS mission.

Responsibilities

1. Support and lead development of data sharing platforms, understanding research objectives, data, and software capabilities.
2. Create synergy among multiple projects and teams to fulfill the CTDS mission.
3. Implement program and project processes, policies, and procedures in collaboration with staff and leadership.
4. Lead initiatives to integrate product strategies into project deliverables, working with stakeholders.
5. Oversee SDLC management with engineering leaders, identifying process improvements.
6. Coordinate planning, prioritization, and confluence across projects, including contract renewals, schedules, risks, and security requirements.
7. Manage reporting of documentation and deliverables, and contribute to manuscript and grant proposal preparation.
8. Apply project management and agile methodologies with minimal supervision.
9. Manage and mentor team members, overseeing performance and results.
10. Develop program objectives, research trends, and establish directions.
11. Manage budgets and provide recommendations.
12. Serve as a key resource for program information and problem resolution.
13. Perform other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

College or university degree in a related field and 7+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in relevant disciplines.
• Experience with multi-institutional programs, client management, open-source software, grant writing, biomedical informatics, and federal contracts.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms, information security regulations, and program management best practices.

Working Conditions

• Hybrid office/remote, with potential travel.
