Job description

Company: Upstream Carbon

Role Overview: Upstream Carbon is seeking a highly motivated and proactive Program Manager to drive initiatives in a mission-driven organization dedicated to supporting conservation and sustainable development with AI. In this role, you will manage projects with our partners, ensuring seamless coordination with federal, state, and nonprofit stakeholders while gathering and documenting valuable feedback to inform future product improvements. You’ll also create outreach materials, refine program outcomes, and support resource planning to maximize impact. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful environmental impact while fostering adoption of AI solutions.

About Upstream Carbon: Upstream Carbon uses machine learning and geospatial analysis to drive land conservation, clean energy site selection, and sustainable development. The platform’s advanced algorithms assess properties on their suitability for climate-smart projects, aiding in carbon project site evaluations and public sector land use planning. Founded in 2023 and self-funded through 2024 on geospatial software licensing and services revenue, Upstream Carbon was recently awarded federal funding to scale out its geospatial intelligence and identify landowners of suitable sites for forest conservation and carbon projects across the Eastern US.

Benefits:

  • Founding team equity stake with substantial potential
  • Highly competitive compensation package including competitive salary ($110,000), health benefits, flexible vacation, and potential for commission
  • Pioneering a mission that directly combats climate change and protects critical ecosystems in North America
  • Remote-first work environment with meaningful in-person collaboration

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the timelines and deliverables associated with customer-facing projects and partner initiatives
  • Develop and communicate project plans with internal and external stakeholders in a succinct and professional manner
  • Engage with federal, state, and nonprofit stakeholders to solicit product feedback and document that feedback in an organized and accessible manner for future product improvements
  • Serve as a bridge between program goals and day-to-day customer engagement, ensuring feedback loops are established to refine program and product outcomes
  • Create educational and onboarding materials that address both program objectives and the practical needs of customers, enabling broader engagement and adoption
  • Assist with financial and resource management for delivery of strategic initiatives and client projects
  • Conduct impact evaluation and assessment for program-related activities

Ideal Candidate:

  • Self-directed, with the ability to set and achieve ambitious objectives independently
  • A creative problem-solver who advocates for innovative solutions and manages the change required to implement new processes or products
  • An exceptional communicator, both written and verbal, with a proactive approach to tailoring messaging for diverse audiences
  • Highly organized, skilled at managing multiple projects, and adept at maintaining clear chains of communication
  • Experienced in marketing, product marketing, or developing outreach campaigns.
  • Familiar with the software development process
  • Experience in forestry, agriculture, public sector, nonprofits, conservation, ecology, or related fields

How to Apply: Submit your resume along with a brief description (280 characters max) of a local ecosystem you are passionate about and believe deserves restoration or permanent conservation.

Location: Boston, MA (preferred, but flexible for the right candidate)
