Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Western Territory is seeking a Program Cook to manage the weekly breakfast and lunch service for Port Angeles residents, including food prep, portion control, and safe kitchen practices.

You will work with volunteers, maintain inventory, and ensure all health and safety standards are met while coordinating with Corps Officers and the Administrative Assistant. A valid WA Food Handlers Permit and driver's license are required.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid WA State Food Handlers Permit.
  • Valid WA State Driver's License and good driving record.
  • Experience preparing and serving congregate meals to fifty or more people.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare menus, adaptable to donations.
  • Cook and serve meals using standard portion controls.
  • Maintain budget-conscious meal preparation with nutritional considerations.
  • Supervise staff/volunteers in kitchen and enforce hygiene.
  • Keep kitchen areas clean, disinfected, and equipment maintained.
  • Ensure kitchen equipment is turned off after use.
  • Oversee Food Bank setup, tear-down, and inventory as needed.
  • Rotate and store food at proper temperatures to prevent contamination.
  • Report accidents or issues to Corps Officers and coordinate with admin.
