Job summary

RESRG Automotive is seeking a Program Purchasing Buyer for our Troy, Michigan facility. You will manage direct material sourcing for assigned customer programs from RFQ through SOP, partnering with Engineering, Program Management, Manufacturing, Sales and Category Strategy to meet timing, cost and commercial goals.

You will deliver program sourcing plans, drive cost reduction, manage supplier performance, and support new launches with tooling and supplier agreements in a fast-paced automotive

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain or related field.
  • 2–4 years in purchasing, sourcing, or supply chain.
  • Strong negotiation skills and supplier relationships.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple programs and priorities.
  • Strong analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own direct material sourcing for assigned programs from RFQ to SOP and production.
  • Execute program sourcing plans to hit cost, quality, timing and launch targets.
  • Support new program launches with supplier selection, tooling, and commercial agreements.
  • Manage open commercial issues and ensure supplier commitments align with needs.
  • Lead supplier negotiations including pricing, tooling and long-term agreements.
  • Monitor supplier performance across cost, delivery and quality, escalating risks.
  • Create and maintain POs, pricing agreements, and sourcing docs in ERP.

Your Job

The Program Purchasing Buyer is responsible for executing all direct material purchasing activities for assigned customer programs from RFQ through end-of-life. Operating within a customer program delivery team structure, this role works closely with Engineering, Program Management, Manufacturing, Sales, and Category Strategy to ensure sourcing execution aligns with program timing, cost targets, and commercial objectives.

The Program Buyer supports the Manager of Direct Purchasing by delivering program sourcing plans, executing cost and value initiatives, managing supplier performance, and ensuring category strategies are effectively deployed at the program level across a $250 million+ direct material spend portfolio. This role requires strong execution discipline, commercial acumen, and the ability to operate cross-functionally in a fast-paced automotive environment.

What you Will do in Your Role
Program Sourcing & Execution
  • Own direct material sourcing activities for assigned customer programs from RFQ through SOP and ongoing production.
  • Execute program sourcing plans to achieve cost, quality, timing, and launch readiness targets.
  • Support new program launches by ensuring supplier selection, tooling sourcing, and commercial agreements are completed in alignment with program milestones.
  • Manage open commercial issues and ensure supplier commitments align with program and customer requirements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Serve as the purchasing representative on customer program teams, partnering closely with Program Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Sales.
  • Ensure program-level sourcing decisions align with category strategies and cross-program objectives.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with direct material suppliers.
  • Lead supplier commercial negotiations, including piece price, tooling, long-term agreements, and commercial change management.
  • Monitor supplier performance across cost, delivery, quality, and responsiveness; proactively identify and escalate risks.
  • Support supplier development and collaboration initiatives focused on innovation, performance improvement, and value creation.
Cost Management & Value Creation
  • Deliver current-year cost reduction and production performance improvement initiatives aligned with category and program strategies.
  • Manage program-related cost changes, including engineering changes, volume adjustments, and commercial recoveries.
Systems, Reporting & Compliance
  • Create, manage, and maintain purchase orders, pricing agreements, and sourcing documentation within ERP and purchasing systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of sourcing decisions, contracts, and supplier agreements in accordance with company policies.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or a related field
  • 2-4 years of experience in purchasing, sourcing, or supply chain
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience managing supplier commercial relationships
  • Proven ability to manage multiple programs and competing priorities
  • Strong analytical skills
What Will Put You Ahead
  • ERP/MRP system experience preferred
  • Automotive experience: Tier 1 or Tier 2 manufacturing processes and materials
  • Experience working within a matrixed or program based organization
  • Experience supporting new program launches in APQP-driven environments
