Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Central Territory in Olathe, KS seeks a Program Aide to assist with operating the Corps' After School and Summer Day Camp programs. You will help plan, create and implement activities and supervise youth.

Responsibilities include enforcing program rules, serving snacks, providing transportation, and assisting with volunteer supervision. The role involves working in classroom, gym, and outdoor settings before and after school hours.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary training in teaching/childhood development, mentoring, recreation and/sports preferred
• Prior experience working with children in a structured setting
• In-service training will be required
• Ability to relate to children and exhibit a positive leadership example

Job Objective: The Program Aide assists with operating the Corps' After School Program and Summer Day Camp Program.

Essential Functions:

• Assist with planning, creating and implementing activities
• Instruct and participate in program activities
• Provide youth supervision
• Maintain and administer program rules and policies
• Plan, prepare and serve food and snack
• Provide child transportation
• Assist with child transportation as second person

Administrative Duties

• Maintain parent/child relations on a professional level
• Responsible for client sign in and maintain attendance records
• May supervise volunteers

Facilities Responsibilities

• Maintain building security
• Provide general cleaning and maintain appearance of areas used by the program
• Change bulletin boards monthly
• Report any repairs, maintenance, safety or security needs promptly to supervisor
• Inventory and maintain equipment

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary training in teaching, childhood development, mentoring, recreation and/sports preferred

Experience: Prior experience working with children in a structured setting

Certifications/Licenses: In-service training will be required

Supervisory Responsibility: Supervise volunteers as directed

Physical Requirements: Include actively participating in activities with children, standing for long periods of time; walking, running, bending, reaching; lifting up to 25 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Travel: None

Driving: Driving is required. This position requires a valid driver's license from the state in which the employee resides. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Working Conditions: The work environment for this position includes a classroom, gymnasium and outdoor environment. Hours include before and after school time. Some full day hours will be required based on the Olathe School District calendar.
