Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, nursing, public health, business administration, or related field plus four (4) years of experience in program/project administration or a related setting; OR HS Diploma plus eight (8) years of experience in program/project administration or a related setting
  • Experience with reviewing charts in an Electronic Health Record
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in medical coding, quality, research, or regulatory compliance

Responsibilities

  • Identify 100 percent of metabolic and bariatric surgery patients for inclusion in MBSAQIP Registry
  • Collect preoperative, intraoperative, 30-day postoperative, and long-term follow-up data
  • Ensure confidentiality of patient health information and HIPAA compliance
  • Enter accurate, complete, and timely data into the MBSAQIP Registry
  • Track health information through medical records, surgery clinics, and direct patient contact
  • Identify process improvement opportunities in data collection
  • Use software applications for data collection, entry, analysis, and report generation
  • Fulfill outcomes data and report requests for committees, quality management, infection control, and administration
  • Participate in audits, accreditation, site visits, annual reporting, and corrective action plans
  • Review, approve, and sign off on registry submissions, annual reports, accreditation documentation, and official correspondence
  • Exercise independent decision-making over daily MBSAQIP program operations and registry timelines
  • Develop and revise program policies, standard operating procedures, and data collection workflows
  • Coordinate surgeons, clinical teams, and administrative leadership to enforce registry deadlines and follow-up processes
  • Make determinations regarding process improvements, corrective actions, and resource utilization
  • Perform and coordinate administrative tasks related to senior medical student electives and medical student educational activities
  • Maintain student files, post and report grades confidentially, and support student library and call room operations
  • Assist with student clerkship research, grievances, emergencies, and work-hour monitoring
  • Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Establish relationships with surgery, medicine, nursing, medical records, and information systems departments
  • Collaborate with bariatric surgeon office staff, academic faculty, and research teams
  • Develop educational materials and deliver presentations on MBSAQIP Registry requirements
  • Track key performance indicators and support continuous quality improvement projects
  • Represent the metabolic and bariatric surgery program to hospital leadership, quality committees, and ACS MBSAQIP representatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job description

Requirements

  • Experience with reviewing charts in an Electronic Health Record
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in medical coding, quality, research, or regulatory compliance
  • Completion of relevant registry certification, as appropriate, within 6 months of hire
  • Experience with quality indicator specifications and methodology
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, basic anatomy, physiology, and disease process
  • Microsoft Office proficiency; Word and Excel experience required
  • Clinical chart review and abstraction experience required
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and data tracking
  • Must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
  • Subject to pre-employment screening, including criminal background, drug testing, and/or education verification
