Qualifications

  • Two years of experience with activity planning and implementation, developing, coordinating and delivering activities that promote social interaction, physical health, and mental wellbeing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a monthly activity calendar with tenants to reflect their needs and interests.
  • Create age-appropriate on-site recreation, socialization, educational and skill-building activities for community inclusion.
  • Include a mix of ongoing programs and special events focused on life skills and healthy living.
  • Provide workshops addressing peer pressure, drug HIV/AIDS prevention, gang violence, teen pregnancy, teen suicide.
  • Facilitate referrals and support for educational workshops to improve life skills and independence.
  • Document tenant participation in groups and activities per standards.
  • Observe and assess activity effectiveness and gather participant feedback for improvements.
  • Coordinate with staff to address challenges with tenant rent payments affecting housing stability.
  • Participate in supervision, meetings, case conferences, and trainings.
  • Ensure health, safety, and wellbeing, including during emergencies, with on-site reporting when needed.

Position Overview

SCOPE OF ROLE:

The role of the Program Activity Coordinator is to plan and implement a variety of activities, with input from participants, that promote social interaction, physical health, and mental wellbeing. They should be able to work closely with families and other staff members to ensure that activities are suitable and beneficial for participants. They should have the ability to organizelogisticsfor activities including referrals to outside and community-based activities. Theyare required tobe able to develop a rapport with people with complex needs, diverse ethnicities, backgrounds, ages, and sexual preferences.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop a monthly activity calendar ofevents,working with tenants to integrate their suggestions and ensure that activities reflect their diverse needs,experiencesand interests.

  • Develop age-appropriate on-site recreation, socialization, educational and skill-building activities with a view towards community inclusion and integration for individuals and families.

  • Ensure activity programs include a variety of both ongoing programs andspecial eventswith a focus on life skills and ability to live safely independently, as well as improving physical and mental health such as Yoga,Zumbaand Art class etc.

  • Provide workshops and activities that will address peer pressure, drug, HIV/AIDS prevention, gang violence, teen pregnancy, teen suicide, and other issues associatedwith atriskyouth.

  • Provide referrals and support for educational workshops and presentations geared toward developing life skills and ability to live safely and independently and that allow tenants to safely age in place, thrive in their communities and avoid homelessness.

  • Documenttenant participation in groups and activitiesin accordance withHRA standards.

  • Observe and assess the effectiveness of activities, gathering feedback from participants to make necessary adjustments and improvements.

  • Coordinate with staff and implement strategiesregardingany identified challenges with tenant rent payments that may affect housing stability.

  • Participate in ongoing individual supervision, team meetings, case conferences, division meetings, and training.

  • Job functions are critical tomaintainingthe health, safety, and wellbeing of the people we serve, particularly during emergencies like pandemics, natural disasters, or government shutdowns. Employeesare often required toreport to work in person during such events.

Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Master’s degree in social work or a related human services field with two years of experience working with the homeless population and families.

  • Two years of experience with activity planning and implementation, developing,coordinatingand delivering a variety of activities that promote social interaction, physical health, and mental wellbeing.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
  • Basic computer skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills for engaging with participants and fostering a positive environment.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Ability to plan and manage multiple activities simultaneously ensuring all logistical details are handled effectively.

  • A creative mindset to develop engaging and diverse activity programs that cater to various interests and abilities.

  • Recreation / activity certification desirable.
