Professional Tutor (Nursing) – University of Saint Joseph
Professional Tutors support students in group tutoring sessions and 1‑1 appointments for the course(s) for which they are hired. Tutors guide students in understanding their course resources, connecting ideas together and to real‑life experiences, and applying information and skills to problems and scenarios.
This course utilizes a family‑centered approach to focus on health promotion, illness prevention, safety, and acute and chronic illness health conditions in the pediatric population.
This course is designed to provide nursing students with a comprehensive understanding of maternal and newborn health. Emphasizing family‑centered care, the course prepares nursing students to provide holistic care to childbearing families during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Students will apply their clinical skills in simulation and in maternity clinical settings.
This course continues discussion of current public health topics begun in NURS 404 – Nursing Care of Populations and Individuals in the Community I and adds the role of nurse in providing care to patients in the community.
The focus of this course is holistic professional nursing practice through synthesis, analysis, and application of knowledge. Increase in clinical competence is gained through integration of empirical and professional knowledge, clinical and cognitive skills, and professional values and behaviors. Based on the synthesis of knowledge the student will continue to provide comprehensive nursing care to patients, families, and the community.
Tutors generally work 2–6 hours a week depending on the number of courses they support. Days and times vary based on the tutor’s and students’ schedule. The CAE is open Monday to Thursday 9 am–8 pm and Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. All new tutors will attend a paid 8‑hour pre‑semester training and 2.5 hours of professional development meetings a month.
