The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team. They are responsible for setting care standards, providing nursing care, and collaborating with the healthcare team. Responsibilities include managing patient care activities, demonstrating leadership, and establishing collaborative relationships with physicians, patients, and families. The role emphasizes a commitment to community and the nursing profession.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships, demonstrate accountability, and promote safe work practices.
  • Apply adult learning principles to teach patients, families, and staff, supporting development and creating an environment of open dialogue.
  • Use the nursing process within Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment, formulate goals, and ensure comprehensive documentation.
  • Participate in professional development, quality improvement, and research activities to enhance patient care and practice environment.

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to the patient age group, with a minimum of zero to two years of experience. BSN preferred. Ability to establish positive relationships, work effectively in complex environments, and exercise good clinical judgment are essential. Physical stamina for walking, standing, and patient handling is required.

UPMC offers flexible scheduling options, including night and weekend shifts with premium pay, contingent on experience and orientation requirements.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Current RN licensure in the state of employment or a multistate license under the NLC
  • CPR certification within 30 days of hire
  • Preferred: UPMC-approved national certification
  • Other required clearances and certifications listed in detail
