Job summary

State of West Virginia seeks an experienced engineer to join the Office of Abandoned Mine Lands and Reclamation (AML&R) Design Section in Fairmont. You will perform professional engineering services under limited supervision, supporting AML&R projects from design through construction.

Requirements include a current PE license, 7 years of engineering experience (3 as PE), and an ABET-accredited degree preferred.

Qualifications

Current Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by the West Virginia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
Seven (7) years of full-time or equivalent paid experience in engineering, with at least three years as a licensed PE.
ABET-accredited Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil, Mining or Environmental preferred.

Responsibilities

Monitor design plans and specifications for feasibility, economics, standards, and reclamation objectives.
Ensure technical correctness and quality control of designs.
Conduct site investigations to evaluate geotechnical conditions.
Define project extent and design objectives; determine scope of work for reclamation measures.
Lead field and office meetings; provide technical guidance on design methods and contract procedures.
Coordinate drilling, mapping, surveying, and water monitoring activities.
Perform engineering computations for design features and analyze hydrologic, hydraulic, earthwork, and geotechnical data.
Maintain workflow reports and progress schedules; document design changes and economic impacts.
