Job summary
West Virginia is seeking an entry-level engineer for the Office of Abandoned Mine Lands and Reclamation (AML&R) Design Section in the Fairmont Regional Office. The role involves learning to perform professional engineering work, monitor design concepts, and support design teams on reclamation projects.
Qualifications include an engineering degree (ABET‑accredited preferred in Civil, Mining or Environmental) and FE exam or Engineer Intern certification.

- ABET-accredited degree preferred in Civil, Mining or Environmental engineering
Responsibilities
- Monitor design plans and specifications for feasibility, economy, standards, and reclamation objectives.
- Ensure designs meet technical correctness and quality control.
- Conduct site investigations to evaluate geotechnical conditions.
- Define project scope and design objectives for reclamation measures.
- Coordinate drilling, mapping, surveying, and water monitoring activities.
- Provide technical assistance on operation methods and contract procedures.
- Perform engineering computations for design features and analyze hydrologic, hydraulic, earthwork, and geotechnical data.
- Maintain detailed workflow reports and progress schedules for contracted design work.
