West Virginia is seeking an entry-level engineer for the Office of Abandoned Mine Lands and Reclamation (AML&R) Design Section in the Fairmont Regional Office. The role involves learning to perform professional engineering work, monitor design concepts, and support design teams on reclamation projects.
Qualifications include an engineering degree (ABET‑accredited preferred in Civil, Mining or Environmental) and FE exam or Engineer Intern certification.
This position is classified exempt; therefore, does not fall under the classified service.

Employee will be assigned to the Office of Abandoned Mine Lands and Reclamation (AML&R), Design Section in the Fairmont Regional Office. Under supervision of the Fairmont Design Manager, employee will learn to perform professional work providing a wide variety of engineering services. Employee will learn to perform all duties required of the Division of Purchasing to select qualified engineering firms to design AML&R projects and meet planned construction schedules.
Bachelor's degree in any engineering curriculum.
Satisfactory completion of the examination on the fundamentals of engineering (FE).
Current certification in good standing as an Engineer Intern issued by the West Virginia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
At the appointing agency’s discretion, competitive candidates may receive probationary appointment pending official verification of the qualifying training, examination or certification. The qualifying training, examination or certification must be verified before the employee may be certified permanent.
Preference will be given to candidates with ABET accredited Bachelor of Engineering degrees in Civil, Mining or Environmental.
