Job summary

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection in Fairmont seeks an Engineer Trainee in the AML&R division. You will learn to perform professional engineering tasks, supporting design, mapping, and field activities for abandoned mine lands reclamation projects.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, FE exam or Engineer Intern status, and willingness to gain skills in AutoCAD and GIS.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
Satisfactory completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or current Engineer Intern certification.

Responsibilities

Monitor contractor’s design progress and assess feasibility, economics, and conformance to standards.
Review design concepts for technical correctness and quality control.
Conduct site investigations to evaluate geotechnical conditions.
Define project scope and design objectives for reclamation projects.
Coordinate field and office meetings; provide technical guidance on design methods and procedures.
