Job summary

University of Portland is seeking a part-time Professional Community Development Assistant to support the Director of Professional Community Development within the School of Education Office Administration. The role includes researching donors, crafting newsletters, coordinating alumni video projects, and assisting with events and marketing campaigns.

The position partners with faculty, staff, and student workers to deliver timely communications and programs, with occasional evening or weekend

Responsibilities

  • Contact alumni regarding video/filming project for marketing.
  • Produce video/filming material for School of Education marketing.
  • Collaborate with marketing to create invitations for events.
  • Develop and maintain quarterly newsletter highlighting UP SOED activities.
  • Represent School of Education at events and conferences.
  • Communicate with students, alumni, community members, and donors via phone, email, and in person.
  • Assist with graduate program marketing campaigns, timelines, pricing, and ad creation.
  • Draft quarterly stewardship letters to School of Education donors.
  • Assist with event planning including venue selection, catering, travel, A/V, and programming.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for assisting the Director of Professional Community Development with various tasks to include: researching donors and companies for upcoming conferences, creating quarterly newsletter and stewardship letters, contacting alumni about video project, work on filming and editing videos, representing the University at events, drafting invitations, creating timelines for projects, overseeing MAT graduate program marketing campaign, assisting with event planning tasks, and working with all departments to accomplish specific projects for the School of Education as assigned. This position works in full partnership with other School of Education student employees, as well as all School of Education faculty and staff.

Core Duties
  • Responsible for contacting alumni regarding the video/filming project
  • Producing video/filming project for School of Education for marketing purposes
  • Work with marketing to create invitations for special events
  • Develop and maintain quarterly newsletter for the School of Education; draft to include highlights of what’s taking place at UP SOED that donors and alumni would be interested in knowing, detailing academic achievements of the University’s students, as well as other news-worthy, pertinent events
  • Represent and work at various School of Education related events and conferences
  • Contact students, alumni, community members, and donors via phone and email, as well as in person
  • Work closely with existing School of Education student workers to assist the Director of Professional Community Development in various other duties as assigned
  • Oversee graduate program marketing campaign, which includes timeline development, ad creation, pricing, and collaborating with appropriate advertising platforms
  • Write quarterly stewardship letter to School of Education donors
  • Assist the Director of Professional Community Development with event planning, including venue selection, catering, travel arrangements, A/V, programming, name tags, and
  • Other tasks as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Demonstrates initiative, leadership, energy, and sound judgment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong proofreading skills and attention to detail
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with the School of Education faculty and staff members, other student workers, etc.
  • Comfortable interacting with alumni and friends of the University in a public setting
  • Comfortable interacting with faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the University via email and phone
  • Experience with all Microsoft programs (especially Word and Excel) and experience with mail merges
  • Experience with basic office skills and equipment (phones, copy machine)
  • Self-directed worker
  • Work on multiple tasks at one time

  • Able to attend events during evening and weekend hours
  • Able to move independently around campus to interface with faculty, staff, and students
Preferred Qualifications
  • Mastery of all Microsoft programs (especially Word and Excel) and experience with mail merges
  • Experience with video production and editing
  • Experience with podcasting and editing
  • Experience with Adobe products – such as Premier Pro and inDesgin.
