Job summary

Essentia Health is seeking a Medical Coder to evaluate health record documentation and charges to optimize reimbursement for outpatient visits. You will ensure ICD-10-CM, HCPCS and CPT codes accurately reflect and support the visit, and comply with regulatory guidelines.

The role requires completion or enrollment in a medical coding program with relevant coursework and a passing ESSENTIA HEALTH coding skills assessment, or eligibility for CCS/CCS-P/CPC/RHIA/RHIT with assessment.

Qualifications

• Completed or current medical coding program with ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, CPT coursework and passing ESSENTIA HEALTH coding skills assessment
• Credentialing or eligibility for CCS/CCS-P/CPC/RHIA/RHIT and passing ESSENTIA HEALTH coding skills assessment

Job Description:

Evaluates health record documentation and charges to optimize reimbursement by ensuring that diagnostic and procedural codes and other documentation accurately reflect and support the outpatient visit. Ensures that data complies with regulatory and coding guidelines. Reviews medical information, such as diseases or symptoms and diagnostic descriptions and procedures for a given visit, to accurately assign and sequence the correct ICD-10 CM, HCPCS and CPT codes. Adheres to the quality and productivity standards set by the department.

Education Qualifications:

• Successful completion or currently enrolled in a medical coding program which includes completed course work in ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, CPT codes, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and disease process AND a passing score on the ESSENTIA HEALTH coding skills assessment test

OR

• Credentialed as, or eligible for, Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) AND a passing score on the ESSENTIA HEALTH coding skills assessment test
