Job summary

Tampa General Hospital, Inc. seeks a Profee Surgical Coder to assign diagnoses, modifiers, and procedure codes for surgical encounters across outpatient and inpatient settings. You’ll follow ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and coding policies while querying clinicians for documentation gaps.

Minimum two years’ surgical coding experience is required; CPC or CCS-P certification preferred. Proficiency with MS Office is essential and you’ll work with Coding leadership to ensure high accuracy.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CPC or CCS-P certification required.
• Minimum of two years of surgical/procedural coding experience.
• Experience with data entry into databases and/or software tools.
• Coders are expected to achieve >95% accuracy in coding assessments.

Responsibilities

• Accurately assign diagnoses, modifiers, and procedure codes for surgical encounters.
• Query providers when documentation requires clarification.
• Collaborate with Coding Lead/Supervisor/Manager to maintain knowledge.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state health information laws and standards.
• Serve as SME to clinical and revenue cycle staff.
