Job summary

The Professional Surgical Coder at University of South Florida Tampa General Physicians (USFTGP) UMSA RCO Coding is responsible for accurate and timely assignment of diagnoses, modifiers, and CPT/ICD-10-CM codes to surgical encounters in outpatient and inpatient settings. This role requires adherence to department policies and current coding standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years' experience in surgical/procedural coding.
• Experience data entry of codes into a database/software tool.
• Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• CPC or CCS-P certification required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assign diagnoses, modifiers and procedure codes for surgical encounters.
• Query providers for documentation clarification as needed.
• Collaborate with Coding Lead/Supervisor/Manager to maintain coding accuracy.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state health information regulations and standards.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for clinical and revenue cycle staff.
