Job summary

USF Health is seeking an experienced Professional Surgical Coder to accurately assign diagnoses, modifiers, and procedure codes for surgical encounters in outpatient and inpatient settings. The role requires adherence to ICD-10-CM and CPT-4, and proactive clarification with providers when documentation is unclear.

You'll work under the Coding Lead/Supervisor/Manager and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, while sharing expertise with clinical and revenue cycle staff.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two (2) years' experience in surgical/procedural coding.
• Experience with data entry of codes into a database and/or software tool.
• Professional working experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
• Coders are held to high standard; aim for >95% accuracy during coding assessments.
• Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS coding systems.

Responsibilities

• Assign diagnoses, modifiers, and procedure codes to surgical encounters in outpatient and inpatient settings.
• Query providers when documentation requires clarification.
• Work with Coding Lead/Supervisor/Manager to maintain peak coding knowledge.
• Ensure compliance with federal/state laws and coding standards.
• Serve as a resource for clinical and revenue cycle staff.
