Job summary

Saint-Gobain, via its CertainTeed subsidiary, seeks a Production Supervisor I to lead hourly production teams in a 24/7 manufacturing setting. You will coach staff, manage safety and quality, and drive continuous improvement with Lean/5S practices.

Responsibilities

Job description

This role supports D Crew on the night shift (6:30 PM to 7:00 AM) and follows a fixed 12-hour Pitman schedule (2-2-3 rotation) in a 24/7 manufacturing operation. Candidates should be comfortable with overnight work, alternating 36- and 48-hour workweeks, occasional time before and after shift for handoff and reporting activities, and periodic coverage on the day shift, including participation in scheduled training events.

As a Production Supervisor I, you will provide front-line leadership for our manufacturing operations while promoting a culture focused on safety, quality, productivity, employee engagement, and continuous improvement. Reporting to the Production Manager, Production Superintendent, Operations Manager, or Plant Manager, this role is responsible for supervising hourly production employees and ensuring production activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

The Production Supervisor I serves as a key leader on the manufacturing floor, providing coaching, training, performance management, and operational oversight. This position plays a critical role in driving operational excellence through employee development, problem solving, continuous improvement initiatives, and a strong commitment to Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) standards.

  • Lead and supervise hourly production employees to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of manufacturing equipment and processes.

  • Foster a strong safety culture by conducting shift meetings, enforcing EHS requirements, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in manufacturing, engineering, business, or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years of leadership, supervisory, lead operator, or team leadership experience in a manufacturing, industrial, distribution, military, or related environment.

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams, coaching employees, and driving performance results.

  • Strong knowledge of workplace safety practices and commitment to creating a safe work environment.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities with the ability to evaluate information and implement effective solutions.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Operations Management, Industrial Technology, or a related field.

  • Supervisory experience within a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Six Sigma, and/or 5S methodologies.

  • Familiarity with ISO management systems.

  • Experience using UKG, SAP, or other manufacturing and workforce management systems.

  • Experience leading continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to move throughout a manufacturing facility and remain active for extended periods during the shift.

  • Ability to frequently observe production processes, equipment, and employee work activities.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through electronic communication methods.

  • Ability to occasionally climb stairs, platforms, and ladders and navigate industrial work environments safely.

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include exposure to heat, cold, humidity, dust, fumes, noise, moving equipment, and other industrial conditions while utilizing required personal protective equipment.

  • Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to operational, safety, and employee-related situations as they arise.

  • Occasional travel (up to 10%) for training and development opportunities may be required.
