Job Description
As a member of the plant management team, you are accountable for the supervision and operating results of the production shift, including scheduling, efficiency, quality, safety, housekeeping, health, and environmental requirements.
Responsibilities will include:
- An undergraduate degree in engineering, technical, or a related field, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- A minimum of three to five years of progressive supervisory experience in a unionized manufacturing facility.
- Excellent communication (oral & written) and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interact with customers to solve problems and promote new business opportunities.
- Good judgment and the ability to interact effectively with hourly employees, union representatives, co-workers, managers, outside vendors, lawyers, and consultants.
- Strong reasoning skills with the ability to analyze problems, collect and interpret data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Email.
- Knowledge of 5S and Lean Manufacturing is a plus.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Direct and coordinate activities of hourly workers engaged in operating machines used to produce plastic, including compounds and blends.
- Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the plant to meet customer and corporate requirements.
- Maintain department/shift quality, performance, safety, and housekeeping standards.
- Manage staffing for each shift, including scheduling vacations and personal days.
- Investigate accidents and administer safety policies and procedures.
- Monitor compliance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
- Provide coaching and counseling when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Strong technical knowledge of plastic compounding and extrusion.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to analyze problems, interpret data, and draw valid conclusions.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma is a plus.
