Job Summary

The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily manufacturing operations within a food ingredients production facility. This role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant production processes while meeting quality, productivity, and regulatory standards. The supervisor leads frontline personnel, drives continuous improvement, and ensures adherence to food safety and quality systems.

Typical Job Duties
Production Operations
  • Supervise day-to-day production activities to meet output, quality, and efficiency targets.
  • Coordinate production schedules and ensure timely execution of work orders.
  • Monitor equipment performance and address operational issues to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure proper documentation of production activities, including batch records and shift reports.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance to address deviations, non-conformances, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain audit readiness and support internal/external inspections.
  • Lead, coach, and develop production staff to achieve performance objectives.
  • Train employees on safety, quality, and operational procedures.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and participate in incident investigations.
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to OSHA and site safety requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce waste, and optimize processes.
  • Support lean manufacturing or other continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as yield, downtime, and labor efficiency.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Coordinate with Maintenance, Quality, Supply Chain, and Warehouse teams to ensure operational alignment.
  • Communicate production updates, challenges, and performance metrics to management.
Other
  • Adhere to all government and company safety, sanitation and GMP policies and regulations. Adhere to Food Safety, Quality and SQF Codes.
  • Responsible for incorporating Food Safety programs and certifications, local and Federal regulations and any other required Food Safety elements of the site into their area of operations.
  • Responsible for ensuring area personnel are trained and follow Food Safety requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Engineering, Operations Management, or related field
  • 3–5+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of food safety standards (GMP, HACCP, SQF, BRC, etc.)
  • Proven leadership and team management skills
  • Ability to analyze production data and drive improvements
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • Including standing, walking, and working in a plant environment for extended periods
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or an associate’s/bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
