Job Summary

In this role, you will help sustain Mennel’s tradition of excellence established in 1886, support our food safety programs, and fulfill our mission to reliably deliver superior quality, uniformity, and service. This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the extrusion plant equipment and systems, ensuring that production, sanitation, and quality assurance requirements are met. It also upholds the Mission, Motto, Food Safety, and Quality Statement of Mennel Milling Company.

Primary Work Shift

Works shift as assigned, typically from 6am to 4:30pm, with overtime as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Follow all food and personal safety rules and regulations, including GMPs, OSHA, HACCP, the Global Food Safety Initiative, the US FDA Food Safety Modernization Act, and sanitation guidelines. Attend all required training sessions and maintain the department/facility in an audit-ready condition.
• Collaborate with the Plant Manager to plan production and work directly with technicians/operators to execute daily plans.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, product quality, and sanitation programs; meet housekeeping standards.
• Perform preventative and reactive maintenance activities with plant technicians.
• Operate plant equipment and control systems effectively.
• Work with the Plant Manager to ensure adequate supplies of maintenance parts, packaging materials, and cleaning supplies.
• Oversee clean-up and changeover activities on all equipment.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with the Plant Manager.
• Assist in training technicians and operators.
• Strive for continuous improvement and work with floor lead operators to meet performance goals.
• In the absence of the Plant Manager, act as backup/responsible for food safety and quality.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Oversee the daily production activities of technicians and operators.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field preferred.
• Minimum five years of manufacturing experience in a fast-paced environment; food processing experience preferred.
• Leadership skills required.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of GMPs in a food manufacturing setting.
• Proficiency in computer software and control systems.
• Mechanically inclined and willing to perform maintenance tasks.
• Ability to execute and complete work efficiently and with high quality.

Language Skills

Ability to read and understand instructions, procedures, and plans; communicate effectively in writing and verbally.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations accurately.

Reasoning Ability

Use sound judgment and adapt quickly to changing work duties.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand, walk, perform maintenance, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, crawl, and communicate. Occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

Exposure to a fast-paced manufacturing environment, including moving equipment, dusty, hot/humid, cold conditions, heights, airborne particles, and noise requiring hearing protection. Exposure to wheat allergens is possible.
