Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Direct wire and cable experience preferred.
  • Strong mechanical and process aptitude with wire/cable machinery.
  • 2–4 year degree in engineering or manufacturing technology preferred; equivalent proven experience considered.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Team player and developer of teamwork.
  • Lean Sigma training and MS Office knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety, quality, cost and productivity in a high-paced production environment.
  • Plan and monitor daily production schedules and staffing with Director of Operations and Planning.
  • Coach and develop operators; track attendance and performance; support training programs.
  • Establish KPIs on the floor and drive continuous improvement (5S, lean initiatives).
  • Coordinate with maintenance and engineering to reduce downtime and optimize throughput.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and incident reporting procedures.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Production Supervisor is responsible for employee safety, quality, and supervising production in a high pace environment. Ensures compliance with daily planning, manufacturing and shipment schedules, while maintaining standards of Safety, Quality, Costs and Productivity. Provides employee training and maintains compliance with established rules, regulations, and practices.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Safety:
  • Identify unsafe conditions and eliminate safety hazards.
  • When an incident occurs, a full understanding of what happened needs to be understood, corrective action taken and reflected in the incident report.
  • Incident reports need to be reviewed by the Director of Operations for comment and corrective action as required.
  • Ensure all members are trained and working in a safe manner.
  • Continuous monitoring for unsafe acts, maintenance concerns, slip/trip/ fall concerns.
  • Regularly coach, encourage and monitor employees for compliance with safety rules and practices.
Staffing/Training:
  • Identify staffing needs and collaborate with Director of Operations and Human Resources to prioritize and ensure timely recruitment for open positions.
  • Participate in screening and hiring of candidates.
  • Develop and track new operator training, and tiered growth path for a successful career in Marmon Utility.
  • Train and cross-train operators as required to perform to the schedule as outlined by Planning.
  • Each Supervisor will have responsibility to be a member of various committees in collaboration with Director of Operations, designed to correct specific problems that have been addressed by the strategic plan, i.e., Scrap reduction, material usage, safety.
  • Measure operator efficiency.
  • Evaluate and communicate progress/challenges utilizing coaching and training using documented process.
  • Track attendance and recognize quality performance, coach each employee for success.
  • Consult with the designated Human Resources representative on matters related to employee relations, labor relations, benefits, and other HR concerns.
Operations:
  • Responsible for the following of each workstation schedules, communicate with planning for schedule improvement, change or challenges.
  • Responsible for maintaining levels of production including safety, line speeds, product quality and work order quantities.
  • Establish and communicate KPIs on the operation floor to promote productivity, Throughput, and OTD targets.
  • Eliminate downtime through efficient set-ups, material availability, and staging.
  • Reduce downtime due to maintenance, i.e., schedule preventive maintenance.
Scrap:
  • Assure that scrap is being reported by work center.
  • Implement corrective action to reduce scrap by understanding all components that contribute to it.
  • Collaborate with operators to correct problems.
  • Coordinate with engineers, maintenance personnel to correct equipment, process problems.
Productivity / Lean:
  • Promote and support Marmon Utility Lean program by engaging operators in lean activities, training and suggestions.
  • Develop methods to increase the efficiency of staging materials to be run at a work center - eliminate the time for searching for reels and/or materials.
  • Develop and implement visual standards for 5S.
  • Work with leads and team on adherence Monitor daily team accountability to the visual standards and Good to Go Lead team in conducting periodic 5s audits.
  • Once implemented, hand off to team leads.
  • Organize work centers: Organize each work center to achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Provide the required tools and other resources to achieve work center goals.
  • Maintain good housekeeping disciplines.
  • Reduce transportation and waste of materials between and within departments.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Equivalent experience of 3 - 5 years minimum within a manufacturing environment, in a supervisory capacity.
  • Direct wire and cable experience preferred.
  • Strong mechanical and process aptitude and working knowledge of wire/cable machinery.
  • 2 - 4 year degree in engineering of manufacturing technology preferred, but will consider equivalent proven work experience.
  • Candidate must have strong conceptual and analytical skills, organization and problem-solving ability, verbal and written communications skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be a team player and a developer of teamwork within areas supervised.
  • Preferred: Lean Sigma training Maintenance Knowledge Microsoft Office Knowledge
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Physical demands associated with this position include extensive walking, lifting & carrying heavy weighted materials (up to 50 lbs)
  • Must be able to perform extensive standing, driving, walking, and climbing
  • Must be able to operate test equipment, machinery; use power tools; work at heights using ladders and scaffolding.
