This is a full time, in person salary position based at our theatre in Atlanta's West Midtown Neighborhood. No Phone calls please.

Reporting: The position reports to the Artistic Director and secondarily to the Managing Director.

Supervision: This position supervises a full time Technical Director and part time department leaders in Props, Lighting, and Paint, as well as show-specific technical leaders.

Working Hours: Full time salary, 40 hours a week, nights and weekends sometimes required. Standard schedule will be a 5/8 Monday - Friday, and may shift to accommodate rehearsal and build schedules as needed.

Compensation: Range $45,000 to $52,000

Benefits: Receives paid vacation and sick leave pursuant to AE employee policies as a full time salaried employee. Position eligible for a health insurance reimbursement.

Areas of Responsibility Include:

Production Planning and Management

  • Plan and facilitate professional collaboration through regular design and production meetings for all AE shows and events.
  • Work with designers to match designs to scope of production
  • Create and manage a production calendar for all AE programming with workflows for each production department during each phase of production.
  • With the support of technical production heads estimate necessary labor for each AE production.
  • Hold regular production meetings and check-ins with production staff, artists and team members to ensure adherence to all production deadlines and budgets.
  • Ensure that all union, OSHA and industry standard safety measures are in place in all aspects of every production, including but not limited to, rehearsals, set construction, electrics hang/focus, tech rehearsals and performances. Ensure that all productions, build and performances remain safe for employees and audiences.

Proudction Budgeting and Tracking

  • Create labor and materials budgets for each AE production.
  • Track production labor and materials expenses and manage production costs against established budgets for all production departments.
  • Regularly advise the Artistic and Managing Director on projected production costs
  • Assist in season budgeting

Production Contracting and Labor Management

  • Create and execute all artistic contracts including directors, designers, actors, technicians and other contracted artistic personnel (including contracts with applicable labor unions including, but not limited to, Actors Equity Association, Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers and United Scenic Artists).
  • Interview, hire and manage all technical department heads and all overhire labor and contracted production personnel.
  • Create and return all AEA (and other applicable union) reports.
  • Ensure all production and artistic hires and contractors return all appropriate hiring paperwork.
  • Manage production department and employee work schedules.
  • Approve all payroll hours for hourly production personnel.

Facilities, Rental and Presented Work

  • Monitor the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment; arrange for the repair and replacement.
  • When appropriate, perform maintenance and repairs on theatre equipment and facilities including, but not limited to, rigging systems, scene shop machinery and tools, and lighting and sound equipment.
  • Upkeep theatre facility maintaining front of house, backstage areas and the performance space.
  • Manage and coordinate with outside renters and manage the production process of presented work.
  • Supervise the technical apprentice company when assigned to rental and/or presented productions and events.
  • Support events, other programs and special duties as assigned.

An ideal candidate will have additional experience in one or more of the follow areas:

  • Stage Management
  • Theatrical Design
  • Technical Department
  • Head Sound Mixing Directing

An ideal candidate will have experience, skills and expertise similar to those below:

  • In depth problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience working within budget constraints while achieving high results
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in the field.
  • Demonstrable ability as a project leader
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a creative team
  • Understanding of budgeting and planning practices for the theatre
  • Fluency with Excel Fluency with theatrical drafting software such as Vectorworks
  • A desire to mentor apprentices and other emerging artists.
