Job summary

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, Inc. seeks an experienced machine operator to set up and operate automatic or semi-automatic machines in a continuous production environment.

You will monitor meters, gauges, valves, and related controls to ensure adherence to specifications and report any malfunctions. The role requires a High School Diploma/GED and 5–7 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications

• Vocational/Technical training degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operates, tests, and monitors assigned equipment according to established guidelines.

• Troubleshoots control panels and error indicators to ensure proper function.
• May communicate with equipment technicians on highly complex issues.
• Verifies equipment data for reporting.
• Supports installation of operating equipment and may assist training of other operators.
• May assist with numeric controlled programming.

Job Summary

Sets up and operates automatic or semi-automatic machines and related equipment in a continuous production/processing operation | Monitors meters, gauges, valves, flow ratios, temperatures, pressures, and related controls and guidelines to ensure adherence to production/process specifications | Reports any malfunctions or abnormalities and makes minor adjustments and repairs to equipment | Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures

• Typically acts as a lead, coordinating and checking the work of others – but not as a supervisor

Essential Functions

• Operates, tests, and monitors assigned equipment according to established guidelines for an organization.
• Observes and conducts operation of equipment and documents maintenance needs.
• Troubleshoots control panels, error lights, and messages to ensure proper equipment function.
• May communicate with equipment technicians relating to highly complex issues.
• Verifies equipment data for reporting.
• Supports and assists with the installation of operating equipment.
• Controls and adjusts machine settings to complete more complex tasks.
• May assist with training other machine operators.
• May calculate and assist with numeric controlled programming.

Required Qualifications

• Required education and experience: High School Diploma/GED required and 5-7 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Preferred education and experience: Vocational/Technical Training Degree
• Knowledge, skills & abilities: Written communication skills. Ability to gather and document information. Ability to lift/move heavy objects. Mechanical knowledge. Safety knowledge.

Physical Requirements

• Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
• Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
• May need to stand for long periods of time.
• Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
• May be requested to work a different shift.
• Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required.
• This position is Safety-Sensitive.
