Job summary

Urbandale Community School District operates Olmsted Elementary in Urbandale, IA, seeking a part-time General Worker for the Production Kitchen. You will assist in meal prep, serving, and cleaning, while adhering to nutrition standards and safety guidelines.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma and will complete ServSafe and nutrition-related training within the first year. Strong English communication and teamwork are required.

Qualifications

• Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HAACP) knowledge desired.
• Knowledge of quantity food preparation and techniques for preserving nutritional value.
• Knowledge of food service regulation and sanitary codes governing food service operations.
• Knowledge of work safety.
• Knowledge of security and emergency procedures.
• Manual dexterity in handling of all equipment.
• Flexibility to accimlate to drastic changes in environment (hot/cold).
• Ability to read/write/communicate in English.
• Knowledge of computers and basic math/record keeping.
• Strong customer service and pleasant interaction with people.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of USDA Meal Pattern Requirements and Nutrition Standards.
• Ability to perform nutrition positions within kitchen or site assigned.
• Maintain compliance with health regulations.
• Interact professionally with staff, students, inspectors, vendors, and drivers.
• Assist with set-up and serving for breakfast and/or lunch.
• Portion and serve food items neatly.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area.
• Handle leftovers according to food safety guidelines.
• Maintain stock rotation and neatness.
• Report issues to Kitchen Manager/Director of Nutrition Services.
