Job summary

Iowa City Community School District is seeking a Nutrition Services Assistant for Weber Elementary in Iowa City, IA. This part-time, 4.25-hour position supports daily meal service and food preparation with responsibilities including cashiering and basic accounting tasks.

Starting immediately, the role requires standing, reading recipes, following instructions, and lifting up to 45 lbs. The incumbent will work under the Kitchen Manager and may travel to satellite locations as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be physically able to stand for prolonged periods and walk during the day.
• Must be able to read recipes and follow instructions for food preparation.
• Able to tolerate a warm, noisy work environment and maintain high personal hygiene.
• Honest, dependable, and discreet with information about students and staff.
• Must have manual dexterity to handle knives and equipment.
• Able to lift up to 45 lbs and travel as needed.
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle for required travel.

Responsibilities

• Comply with district, department and federal nutrition policies and health sanitation standards.
• Follow attendance rules and notification procedures.
• Maintain personal hygiene and time management.
• Assist in food preparation according to menus, recipes, and nutrition requirements.
• Operate food service equipment (ovens, griddles, steamers, kettles, slicers, mixers, dish machine).
• Perform written and oral directions; manage district email for correspondence.
• Make accurate mathematical calculations for production records and portions.
• Complete production records, sanitation records, and portion sheets.
• Operate cashier duties on the POS system during serving times; assist in serving and restocking lines.
• Provide courteous service to students and staff; follow sanitation guidelines in prep and cleanup.
• Fill in for absent staff and travel to satellite locations; training provided for these duties.
• Attend district training, which may be online or in person; perform other duties as assigned.
