Production Engineer

Full-Time | Up to $85,000 Annually | On-site in Bluffton, OH

Department: Production Engineering

Reports To: Manager of Production Engineering

General Purpose

The Production Engineer is responsible for developing and evaluating new manufacturing processes and improving existing process capabilities, efficiency, and productivity.

Essential Functions

• Identify and implement improvements in safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
• Design and create drawings for new equipment or modifications to existing equipment.
• Develop tooling for new processes and evaluate or improve existing tooling in collaboration with vendors.
• Prepare and maintain PFMEAs, Control Plans, Manufacturing Standards, SOPs, and other related process documentation.
• Develop and maintain quality sensors and poka-yoke systems.
• Reduce product costs while enhancing product quality.
• Communicate with customers and suppliers to resolve issues and drive continuous improvement.
• Provide engineering support to other departments as needed.
• Create engineering plans and designs to optimize product manufacturing.
• Analyze reject data to determine root causes and implement or recommend corrective actions.
• Research new materials and production methods.
• Prepare engineering drawings, cost estimates, manufacturing reports, and minor designs.
• Analyze supplier and contractor bids and make informed recommendations.
• Investigate customer complaints and determine root causes, then implement or recommend appropriate countermeasures.
  
  

Other Responsibilities and Information:

• Ensure the successful launch of new products and efficient production operations.
• Maintain and enhance existing production lines with respect to safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
• Review and modify plant layouts to maximize space utilization and improve material flow.
• Domestic travel may be required, sometimes on short notice.
• Adhere to company policies and procedures to maintain compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 standards, supporting a culture of continuous quality improvement and customer satisfaction.
  
  

Minimum Requirements:

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's, Associate's, or Engineering Technology degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering — or equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment.
  
  

Desired Skills And Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with a willingness to learn on the job.
• Effective communication skills.
• Solid computer literacy.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
• Prior experience in the automotive manufacturing industry preferred (willing to train the right candidate).
• Knowledge of:
• Material handling equipment and principles
• Parts manufacturing and assembly processes (automated/manual)
• Time and motion studies
• Tooling and fixture design
• Engineering mechanics, drafting, heat transfer
• Electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
• Control system principles and equipment
• Statistical process control (SPC)
