Job summary

UNC-Chapel Hill's Carolina Performing Arts is seeking an on-site Audio/Lighting Technician to clear and prep the performance area, set up and test audio, lighting, and staging equipment, and ensure shows are ready. The role offers opportunities to advance in technical skills and leadership, with a typical 15+ hour/week commitment across daytime Tue–Thu preferred.

Applicants should have a high school diploma with tech-related experience; a combination of education and experience is acceptable.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school and one year in the field of technology related to the position's role.
• - Computer coursework may be substituted year-for- year for the required experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• - Journey level requires an additional six months experience.
• - Advanced level requires an additional one year of experience.

• Production shifts can range between 2-10+ hours between 6:00 AM and 2:00 AM; availability to work a minimum of 15 hours per week with a daytime focus (Tue–Thu) preferred.

The mission of Carolina Performing Arts ( CPA ) is to spark curiosity, inspiring all members of our community to discover and more fully engage with the world. We collaborate with dynamic and compelling artists from across the globe to create novel, mission-driven performing arts experiences in partnership with our community. We also open our venues to others to explore, create, and celebrate their own work. Through the Office of the Executive Director for the Arts ( EDA ), CPA oversees all artistic programming, campus and community engagement, marketing and fundraising for its presented, commissioned and produced work, and manages all operations of its venues including facility rentals, technical production, audience services and ticketing.

Position Summary

Duties include but are not limited to clearing and prepping the performance area, setting up and testing audio, lighting, and staging equipment, as well as making sure we are show ready. Whether you are scheduled to setup, operate, or tear down an event, you will have the opportunity to advance in both technical expertise and leadership.

Management Preferences

Production shifts can range anywhere between 2-10+ hours between 6:00 AM and 2:00 AM. Availability to work a minimum of 15 hours per week with a focus on daytime Tuesday through Thursday preferred.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements

Must be comfortable climbing ladders, working at height, and moving 40 pounds with or without accommodation.
