Job summary

Gerber Gear in Portland, OR is seeking a Product Engineer to join our New Product Development team. You will take consumer products from early concepts to production, using 3D CAD and prototyping to drive designs that perform in real-world use.

You will collaborate across Product, Design, Marketing, Sourcing, Manufacturing, and Quality to deliver production-ready solutions. A hands-on, practical engineer with strong problem solving and communication skills will thrive here.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of relevant experience in consumer product design or mechanical engineering.
• Experience with 3D CAD; SolidWorks preferred.
• Experience designing consumer products; outdoor industry experience preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration across functions.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop innovative consumer products from concept through production.
• Create 3D CAD models using SolidWorks or similar CAD systems.
• Develop concepts and mechanical designs balancing performance, manufacturability, cost, and user needs.
• Build and evaluate prototypes to validate designs and identify improvement opportunities.
• Develop technical specifications and drawing packages, including GD&T and test procedures.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Marketing, Sourcing, Manufacturing, and Quality teams.
