Job summary

The position requires greeting customers, training staff, ordering produce, displaying merchandise, and ensuring quality and freshness. A high school diploma or equivalent and prior supervisory experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Basic mathematical ability (add/subtract/multiply/divide) and ability to count.
• Able to give/receive complex verbal instructions/descriptions to/from supervisors/co-workers.
• Stable work and educational history.
• The ability to read and write English.
• Make judgments on merchandise placement, pricing, scheduling, and supervision.
• Good interpersonal communications.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and respond to questions/requests/complaints and explain store policies.
• Assist in hiring/firing, discipline, promotion and evaluation of Produce Department personnel.
• Orient and train new Produce Department employees and retrain as needed.
• Maintain the perishable department Communication Board and follow the Sampling Program guidelines.
• Assist in weekly display planning and ad promotion.
• Supervise/display product, ensure full displays, rotate stock and allocate space for high-demand items.
• Supervise/perform ordering of produce and supplies from approved vendors to minimize stockouts.
• Prepare backroom for receipt of merchandise, check load quality and code-dating, and sort/stock merchandise.
• Clean department areas and operate equipment safely; transport cases to the floor; verify product quality and dates.
• Record inventory items and update price changes and PLU files.
