Primary Responsibilities

1. Greet, assist, and ring out all customers politely.
2. Maintain company standards for perishables and stay up to date on all active safety procedures, including ensuring health and safety codes, checking for pricing and expiration, and maintaining an organized area.
3. Check, record, and retain cooler/freezer temperatures and perform maintenance.
4. Stay current with health and safety standards, and understand cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment within the department.
5. Verify and display products effectively, ensuring displays are full, colorful, rotated, and seasonally appropriate, with space allocated for high-demand items.
6. Prepare the backroom for receiving merchandise, check quality and quantities, code-date all items, and sort cases by ripeness and quality.
7. Understand and communicate store policies and procedures, and operate equipment accordingly.
8. Organize receiving areas, verify deliveries against invoices, inspect for damages or shortages, and manage product storage.
9. Calculate retail prices, perform price updates, and supervise manual pricing when necessary.
10. Manage damaged or unsalable products, coordinate returns, and process markdowns as needed.

Supervision

Reports directly to the Produce Department Manager.

Qualifications

1. Basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
2. High School Diploma or equivalent.
3. Experience with produce in a grocery setting preferred.

Specific Tasks

1. Lifting, twisting, moving, and carrying up to 50 lbs.
2. Maintain signage and pricing in all departmental areas.
3. Care for signs, banners, and daily debris.

Work Environment

Indoor setting with temperature and humidity variations due to backdoor, compressors, coolers, and freezers.
