Job summary

City of Boston seeks a procurement leader to oversee the Fire Department's purchasing function. This provisional appointment focuses on specifications, bidding/RFP support, and contract execution for internal and external units.

The role develops supplier management strategies, manages supplier contracts (1–3 year terms), ensures compliance with procurement laws, and collaborates with the Law department and staff to drive efficiency and cost control.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of financial analysis, budgeting, and/or accounting experience.
• Procurement experience preferred.
• Bachelor's degree preferred; may be substituted for 2 years of experience.
• Strong organizational skills for compliance and reporting.
• Broad knowledge of procurement, supplier management and vendor relations.
• Experience with procurement laws (e.g., 30B, Chapter 149) preferred.
• Ability to define procurement and supplier management strategies.

Responsibilities

• Oversee procurement for Fire Department units and appropriate outside entities.
• Serve as primary City Purchasing contact for the Fire Department; assist in bidding/RFP and contract execution.
• Develop supplier management strategies and monitor performance.
• Implements and manages supplier contracts with 1- to 3-year terms.
• Adhere to procurement laws including 30B and Chapter 149.
• Work with Law department for contract interpretation.
• Develop specifications for supplies, equipment, and service contracts.
• Develop and monitor supplier performance measures.
• Implement procedures to promote efficiency and cost control.
