Job description

The Buyer I is expected to gain competency and knowledge of contract administration, procurement, sourcing, analytics, MMIS item & database management, and project management through daily tasks. The individual must be able to handle assigned tasks with minimal supervision. The ability to change priorities based on organizational needs is essential.

Along with the Supervisor, this person may also take direction from Supply Chain leadership, the Senior Contract Specialist, Contract Specialist I / II, Sourcing Specialist, and Value Analysis Nurse to perform duties related to the acquisition of goods and services for all YNHHS entities.

The Buyer must collaborate with various levels of Supply Chain and Hospital personnel to explore alternatives and participate in vendor negotiations for supplies and services. Responsibilities include Purchase Order execution, Requisition Queue management, standardization, cost stabilization, and contract document preparation to protect all YNHHS entities. Collecting information, financial analysis, and project documentation are also required.

Responsibilities :

1. Purchase supplies, equipment, and services based on existing contracts, adhering to guidelines for cost, quality, and delivery.
2. Ensure the accuracy and completeness of orders, including unit of measure and pricing.
3. Manage projects effectively to meet supply chain savings targets and adhere to the value analysis process across all sites.
4. Collaborate with clinical areas, finance, materials, and others to create new items in the YNHHS formulary.
5. Utilize new web-based tools as they become available and integrate them into daily work routines.
6. Assist in selecting and applying analysis techniques for projects, such as lease vs. buy analysis.
7. Identify products requiring Infor item numbers and prepare data for Infor load by Analytics, including unit of measure, pricing, and general ledger codes.
8. Promote increased utilization of system contract services and improve customer satisfaction at each site.
9. Provide information and analysis at monthly value analysis meetings, including spend data and cost-saving options.
10. Participate in vendor negotiations to achieve financial and contractual goals.
11. Engage in physician meetings to gather information for RFP processes.
12. Maintain comprehensive documentation for contracts, agreements, and cost-saving ideas.
13. Interface with customers and vendors to resolve discrepancies and recommend process improvements.
14. Identify root causes of invoicing issues and develop systemic solutions for supply chain efficiency.
15. Contribute to vendor scorecard data.
16. Achieve cost savings/avoidance goals of $7,500 annually through PO negotiations.

Qualifications :

Education: Bachelor's Degree in a business field preferred; equivalent experience considered.

Experience: With a Bachelor's Degree, 0-1 years of experience required; without a degree, 1-2 years in Procurement or Supply Chain Management, preferably in Healthcare. Experience with contracts and database management is preferred.

Licensure: CMRP or equivalent professional certification (e.g., Six Sigma, APICS CPIM or CSCP) preferred. Pharmacy technicians in CT should have current registration.

Skills: Proficiency in Excel; ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships; capable of working autonomously; adaptable to changing priorities; proficient in Word and PowerPoint; effective communicator with keen attention to detail.
