Job summary

CertainTeed, a Saint-Gobain company, seeks a Process Safety Manager to lead enterprise process safety across our manufacturing network. You will embed process safety principles into facility design, capital projects, operations, and maintenance, driving risk reduction and reliability improvements.

You will lead PHAs, LO-PA, FMEA, MOC reviews, and mechanical integrity programs, partnering with plant leaders to safeguard employees while improving operational performance. Travel ~50%.

Job description

As the Process Safety Manager, you will provide enterprise leadership for Process Safety Management across our manufacturing network, helping shape the systems, standards, and strategies that protect employees while strengthening operational performance.

In this highly visible role, you will partner with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, EHS, and Plant Leadership teams to embed process safety principles into facility design, capital projects, operational practices, and maintenance programs. You will develop and deploy programs that reduce serious injury and fatality exposure, improve reliability, and advance process safety maturity across the Roofing Products Group.

You will lead and facilitate a variety of complex risk assessments, including Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), Layer of Protection Analyses (LOPA), Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA), Machine Risk Assessments, Functional Safety Assessments, and Dust Hazard Analyses. By identifying critical hazards and prioritizing mitigation efforts, you will help ensure sustainable risk reduction across our operations.

This role also serves as the technical leader for Mechanical Integrity, overseeing programs that support the reliability and safe operation of critical assets including thermal fluid systems, asphalt systems, pressure systems, fuel fired equipment, combustible dust systems, ventilation equipment, and machine safeguarding technologies.

You will influence the design and execution of capital projects by applying inherently safer design principles and ensuring process safety requirements are integrated from concept through commissioning. As the Management of Change (MOC) subject matter expert, you will help teams evaluate equipment, process, automation, and procedural changes to ensure risks are identified and appropriately managed before implementation.

Success in this role requires strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to influence stakeholders across a highly matrixed organization. You will lead investigations involving high potential incidents, support root cause analysis efforts, share lessons learned across the network, and help develop the next generation of process safety capability through training and coaching.

To succeed in this position, you should have:

• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering. At least 7 years of experience in manufacturing, engineering, reliability, EHS, process safety, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years leading risk reduction initiatives in industrial operations.
• Experience conducting and facilitating process hazard analyses, risk assessments, or similar technical evaluations.
• Demonstrated success managing complex technical projects and influencing cross functional stakeholders.

You should possess expertise in areas such as:

• OSHA Process Safety Management principles.
• Management of Change (MOC).
• Mechanical Integrity programs.
• Incident investigation and root cause analysis.
• Machine guarding and Lockout/Tagout programs.
• NFPA standards and combustible dust management.
• Contractor safety systems.
• Safety related capital project planning and execution.

The ideal candidate combines technical depth with strong leadership capabilities. You are comfortable engaging with plant managers, engineers, maintenance leaders, EHS professionals, and executive leadership. You can translate complex technical concepts into practical solutions and drive accountability through influence rather than direct authority.

Additional experience in multi site manufacturing environments, asphalt or roofing operations, thermal fluid systems, automation, controls, functional safety systems, or building products manufacturing is highly valued.

Preferred knowledge and certifications include:

• CCPS Risk Based Process Safety.
• Functional Safety standards such as ISO 13849 or IEC 62061.
• NFPA 652 Dust Hazard Analysis.
• Reliability and asset management systems.
• Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles.
• CSP, PE, CFSE, TÜV Functional Safety, PMP, CIH, or Six Sigma certifications.

This role requires approximately 50% travel across the RPG manufacturing network. Candidates should reside within a reasonable commuting distance of a major airport.
