Job summary

Interactive Resources - iR is seeking a Process Safety Engineer to oversee the safe development, implementation, and operation of manufacturing processes and equipment. You will work with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and EHS to identify hazards, evaluate risk, and implement safeguards across the plant.

You will contribute to both existing operations and future changes, including equipment upgrades, facility projects, and startup activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field and 5+ years in manufacturing/regulated environments.
• Experience supporting or facilitating Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs).
• Familiarity with hazard and risk assessment techniques (HAZOP, FMEA, LOPA, What-If).
• Experience assessing safety risks for equipment installs, process changes, and capital projects.
• Knowledge of safeguarding strategies: interlocks, alarms, guarding, and risk reduction.

Responsibilities

• Identify hazards, evaluate risk, and implement safeguards across manufacturing operations.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and EHS.
• Support PHAs and change management through MOC processes.
• Investigate incidents and develop corrective/preventive actions.
• Develop and maintain PSI, P&IDs, and process safety documentation.

Job description

We are seeking a Process Safety Engineer to support the safe development, implementation, and operation of manufacturing processes and equipment. This position will work closely with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and EHS to identify potential hazards, evaluate risk, and implement effective safeguards throughout the manufacturing environment. The engineer will be involved in both existing operations and future changes, including equipment modifications, facility projects, process improvements, and manufacturing startup activities.

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field, along with at least 5 years of engineering experience within manufacturing, industrial operations, or another regulated environment.
• Ability to evaluate hazards associated with production processes, manufacturing equipment, facilities, and operational activities.
• Experience supporting or facilitating Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs).
• Familiarity with structured hazard and risk assessment techniques such as HAZOP, FMEA, LOPA, and What-If evaluations.
• Experience assessing safety risks related to equipment installations, process changes, facility modifications, and capital improvement projects.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding strategies, including engineering controls, safety interlocks, alarms, machine guarding, and other methods used to reduce operational risk.
• Effective technical communication skills with the ability to document findings, analyze complex issues, and work collaboratively with multiple departments.

Additional Experience That's Valuable

• Background working in high-reliability or high-hazard industries such as aerospace, defense, chemical processing, pharmaceuticals, specialty chemicals, or similarly regulated manufacturing environments.
• Experience with Management of Change (MOC) programs and evaluating the safety implications of proposed process, equipment, or facility changes.
• Familiarity with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements.
• Experience investigating manufacturing incidents, identifying root causes, and developing corrective or preventive actions.
• Exposure to facility construction, equipment installation and commissioning, production launch, or manufacturing readiness activities.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or Certified Process Safety Professional (CCPSC) credential.
• Experience creating or maintaining technical process-safety documentation, including Process Safety Information (PSI), P&IDs, process flow diagrams, operating instructions, and emergency response documentation.
