Job summary

CITGO Petroleum Corporation in Lake Charles, LA, seeks a Process Safety Engineer Intern to help implement and maintain PSM systems with HSSE. You’ll work with unit engineers to update procedures and communicate performance data. You must be a full-time student in an ABET-accredited program, have 30 hours completed, a 3.0+ GPA, a valid driver's license, and TWIC eligibility. Spring/Summer/Fall 2027 availability, remote options where eligible.

Qualifications

• Full-time student pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program.
• Must have completed 30 semester hours in the topics above.
• Overall GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• TWIC card: TWIC eligibility and acquisition required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with hazard analyses including HazOp, LOPA, what-if, and what-if checklist methods.
• Assist with the PHA Program and the life cycle for the PHA process.
• Develop interim risk reduction strategies for high-consequence scenarios.
• Participate in HSE meetings.
• Interact with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to address process safety issues.
• Develop and deliver training on process safety management and related topics.
• Participate in incident investigations and implement lessons learned.
• Provide technical support to process safety programs.
