Job summary

CITGO Petroleum Corporation invites eligible students to apply for the Process Safety Engineer Intern position in Lake Charles, LA. The role supports implementing and maintaining PSM systems while collaborating with operations and HSSE teams.

Qualified candidates are pursuing ABET‑accredited engineering degrees, have completed at least 30 semester hours, and maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher. TWIC eligibility is required for access to regulated facilities.

Qualifications

• Must be a full‑time student pursuing a bachelor’s or master's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, Fire Protection Engineering or related field from an ABET‑accredited program.
• Must have completed 30 semester hours in the listed topics.
• Overall GPA 3.0 or above.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• TWIC card eligibility required for unescorted facility access.

Responsibilities

• Assist with hazard analysis methods (HazOp, LOPA, what‑if) and the PHA program lifecycle.
• Contribute to risk reduction strategies for high‑consequence scenarios.
• Participate in HSE meetings and interact with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering.
• Develop and deliver process safety training and assist with incident investigations.
