Job summary

CITGO Lemont Refinery is seeking a Process Safety Engineer intern for a 12-week summer program. The intern will learn refinery safety practices, assist in PSM system implementation, and communicate critical PSM/RMP performance data to HSSE. This on-site role requires engagement with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams.

The internship is paid, with an on-site location in Lemont, Illinois, and ends with a final presentation covering internship accomplishments.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, Fire Protection Engineering, or Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program.
• Sophomore status (completed freshman year) with a 3.0+ GPA.
• Available to work 40 hours per week.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Assist hazard analysis using HazOp, LOPA, what-if methods.
• Support PHA program lifecycle and life-cycle management.
• Develop interim risk reduction strategies for high-consequence scenarios.
• Participate in HSE meetings and coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering.
