Job Description for Utilities and Environmental Control Engineers at Lilly Medicines Foundry

We are currently constructing the Lilly Medicines Foundry in Lebanon, Indiana, offering a unique opportunity to be part of a startup team for a greenfield site. We are seeking engineers for Utilities and Environmental Control (ECU) to support this new facility. Responsibilities include managing gray and clean utilities, Tank Farm Operations, Air Emissions Systems, and Solvent Recovery Systems.

During the Project Delivery and Startup Phases (2025-2028), roles will be dynamic as we support project delivery, develop systems and processes for GMP operations, and build site culture. Collaboration, creativity, and resilience are essential as the site transitions from startup to operational.

Responsibilities
Facility Start-Up:
  • Provide engineering support to the Global Facility Delivery Team, focusing on right-first-time and on-schedule start-up activities such as design reviews, process safety assessments, user requirements, C&Q support, unit operation shakedown, startup, and operational readiness.
  • Define and own aspects of the integrated operational readiness plan, including SOP development, maintenance strategies, automation, safety reviews, alarm requirements, and qualification protocols.
  • Own the qualified state of equipment within your responsibility area.
  • Develop and implement control strategies for utilities and ECU systems to support manufacturing operations.
  • Support initial operations training as the equipment and area SME.
Facility Operations:
  • Support utilities and environmental controls operations using mechanical and chemical engineering fundamentals.
  • Monitor and document equipment performance for ongoing qualification.
  • Develop safety basis for equipment as needed.
  • Integrate modeling and process simulation to enhance understanding and control.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities as part of cross-functional teams.
  • Use root cause analysis to investigate issues and implement corrective actions.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
  • 3+ years in utility operations/engineering, including services like water for injection, boilers, chillers, tank farms, emission controls, waste neutralization, and solvent recovery.

Compensation for this position ranges from $64,500 to $167,200, depending on education, experience, skills, and location. Benefits include a 401(k), pension, medical/dental/vision coverage, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, leave benefits, and well-being programs. Lilly reserves the right to modify compensation and benefits policies.
