Job summary

Zipline is seeking a Process Engineer to transform electro-mechanical products into safe, reliable production lines for aircraft, docks, and logistics hardware. You’ll own lines from tooling through release and sustainment, connecting aerospace manufacturing to field operations and rapid growth.

The role targets scaling output from tens to thousands of units per week within 1–3 years, with an initial priority to bring a complex sub-assembly in-house and validate its line within months.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on manufacturing engineering experience with complex electromechanical assembly lines.
• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Experience with PFMEA, control plans, SPC, Cp/Cpk, and production validation.
• Experience designing and validating fixtures, jigs, and tooling using 3D CAD (Siemens NX preferred).
• Experience using MES/ERP and data tools (Minitab, JMP, Excel) to improve yield and process capability.
• End-to-end project ownership including planning, budgeting, procurement, commissioning, and sustainment.
• Strong DFM judgment, clear communication, and accountability for safe production and measurable results.

Responsibilities

• Own assigned assembly lines and feeder subassemblies from process definition through validation, release, and sustainment.
• Design, procure, install, and commission fixtures, gauges, tooling, workstations, and ergonomic flows.
• Define and validate assembly sequences, PFMEAs, control plans, SPC, capability studies, and release criteria.
• Improve first-pass yield, throughput, takt time, downtime, and cost of poor quality against targets.
• Lead design-for-manufacturing decisions balancing time, inspection, cost, safety, and reliability.
• Investigate production issues and escapes, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Create SOPs, work instructions, and training materials; train technicians and line leads.
• Coordinate capacity, layouts, equipment, and readiness with cross-functional teams; deliver a validated pilot line.
