Job summary

Zipline, the world’s largest autonomous logistics company, is seeking a Lead Manufacturing Engineer in South San Francisco to turn complex electro-mechanical products into safe, reliable production lines. You will own final assembly and feeder sub-assemblies from process definition through validation and sustainment, with regular on-site presence.

The role aims to scale output from tens to thousands of units per week within 1–3 years, balancing safety, quality, and cost.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on manufacturing engineering experience with complex electromechanical assembly lines.
• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• PFMEA, control plans, SPC, Cp/Cpk, first-article processes, and production validation.
• Designing/validating fixtures, jigs, and tooling using 3D CAD; Siemens NX preferred.
• Experience using MES/ERP and tools like Minitab, JMP, or Excel for yield/process capability.
• End-to-end project ownership: planning, budgeting, procurement, commissioning, sustainment.
• DFM judgment, clear communication, attention to detail, safety focus.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate capacity, layouts, equipment, and readiness with teams to deliver a pilot line.
• Own assembly lines and feeder subassemblies from definition to sustainment.
• Define/validate assembly sequences, PFMEAs, control plans, SPC, and release criteria.
• Design, procure, install fixtures, gauges, tooling, and ergonomic workstations.
• Improve yield, throughput, takt time, reliability, and cost targets.
• Lead DFM decisions balancing speed, cost, safety, and reliability.
• Investigate issues, root-cause, and implement corrective actions.
• Create SOPs, training materials; train technicians and line leads.
