Job summary

Zipline is seeking a Lead Manufacturing Engineer to turn complex electro-mechanical products into safe, reliable production lines for aircraft, docks, and logistics hardware. You will own final assembly and feeder sub-assembly lines from process definition to sustainment, scaling output from tens to thousands of units per week over 1–3 years with focus on safety and reliability.

You will work with Design Engineering, Quality, and Operations to validate pilot lines, establish PFMEAs and control

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on manufacturing engineering experience with complex electromechanical assembly lines.
• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Practical mastery of PFMEA, control plans, SPC, Cp/Cpk, and production validation.
• Experience designing and validating fixtures, jigs, and tooling using 3D CAD; Siemens NX preferred.
• Experience using MES/ERP and tools such as Minitab, JMP, or Excel to improve yield and process capability.
• End-to-end project ownership including planning, budgeting, procurement, and sustainment.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate capacity, layouts, equipment, and readiness with cross-functional teams to deliver a validated pilot line.
• Own assembly lines and feeder subassemblies from process definition through release and sustainment.
• Define and validate assembly sequences, PFMEAs, control plans, SPC, and capability studies.
• Design, procure, install, and commission fixtures, gauges, tooling, and ergonomic flows.
• Improve first-pass yield, throughput, takt time, and cost of poor quality against targets.
• Lead design-for-manufacturing decisions balancing time, cost, safety, and reliability.
• Investigate production issues, validate root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Create SOPs and training materials; train technicians and line leads.
