Brief Description

At Norwood Medical, the work we do matters. As a leading manufacturer of precision medical devices and components, we partner with some of the world's most innovative medical technology companies to produce components used in robotic-assisted surgery, minimally invasive procedures, and orthopedic applications.

Norwood Medical is seeking a Process Engineer in New Product Development. This role is responsible for translating customer specifications into efficient and repeatable CNC machining processes, ensuring new products are robust, manufacturable, cost-effective, and are launched on schedule. The Process Engineer supports operations through new product ramp‑up until stable and efficient production is achieved.

This is a hands‑on role that requires up to 50% of the day to be spent on the manufacturing floor communicating with production staff and working as a team to effectively launch new products. Norwood offers the opportunity to work with cutting‑edge equipment and robotics. Candidates must be team oriented and able to lead projects independently.

What You'll Do
CNC Process Development
  • Develop and implement roust CNC machining processes for new products, translating customer and design specifications into repeatable manufacturing solutions.
  • Define and document all manufacturing process steps, including machining strategy, tooling, fixturing, routings, and inspection requirements.
  • Lead CNC process prove-outs, trails, and validations to ensure processes are capable, efficient, and cost-effective prior to production release.
  • Identify manufacturability risks early and drive design or process changes to support successful launches.
Project & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Own process development timelines, managing workload to ensure new product milestones and customer launch schedules are met.
  • Represent process Engineering on project teams, providing regular status updates to management and customers.
  • Partner closely with Customer Design Engineering during the design phase, providing manufacturability and CNC process feedback.
  • Collaborate with Planning to understand machine availability and capacity constraints.
Manufacturing Support & Ramp-up
  • Spend up to 50% of time on the manufacturing floor supporting new product introductions, working directly with operators and production leadership.
  • Support operations through ramp‑up until products are stable, efficient, and meeting cost targets.
  • Plan, conduct, and analyze engineering studies to drive process improvements during development and ramp‑up.
Documentation & Capital Support
  • Create and maintain process documentation, including work instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with capital equipment projects, including equipment selection, justification, and timeline oversight.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma with 10+ years of similar engineering experience OR a bachelor's degree in engineering or related field with 0-3+ years of similar engineering experience.
  • Experience working in CNC machining environments.
  • Experience creating, improving, and/or troubleshooting machining engineering processes.
  • Experience overseeing project timeliness.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience working in automated work environments, including robotics is preferred.
  • 2D/3D modeling experience is a plus.
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC) is a plus.
  • GD&T experience is a plus.
