Cleveland-Cliffs in Burns Harbor, IN is offering a Process Control Engineering Intern position. The program partners with universities to provide co-op opportunities and hands-on experience in automation, software development, hardware maintenance, and process modeling for mill operations.

Interns work with engineers to address production reliability, coordinate with R&D, and gain exposure to vision systems, thermal imaging, RFID tagging, X-ray gauges, and networking.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in Bachelor of Science program in the field of Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related technical degree.
• Completion of sophomore year of study by the summer of 2027.

Responsibilities

• Software development in a variety of programming languages and on a variety of hardware platforms
• Maintenance of computer hardware and software
• Maintenance and problem solving of all aspects of the automation system
• Modifications to the automation system to adapt to new products and processes
• Address issues that may impact production or system reliability
• Process modeling for mill processes of a chemical, metallurgical and mechanical nature
• Administration of a variety of Operating Systems and relational databases on workstations and servers
• Work with complex measurement systems, such as:
• Vision systems for product quality
• Thermal imaging temperature measurements
• RFID and barcode tag reading for product identification
• X-ray, nuclear gauges, and other gauging systems
• Work with networking technologies, high-speed data transmission, and specialty interfaces
• Close coordination with a production department
• Respond to routine and emergency requests
• Manage local area project, task, and priority lists
• Make recommendations for system and process improvements
• Work with vendors on products and performance issues
• Coordinating with Research and Development and other staff departments

Education

Bachelor of Science program in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical degree
