Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Project Engineer to lead manufacturing and capital equipment projects from concept through installation, commissioning, startup, and handover. This position combines project management with mechanical, metallurgical, and manufacturing engineering support in a fast-paced industrial environment. The engineer will work directly with operations, maintenance, quality, suppliers, and contractors to resolve issues, remove roadblocks, and keep projects moving. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong ownership, practical judgment, and the ability to deliver results despite changing priorities or incomplete information.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead engineering projects from concept through commissioning, production ramp-up, and final handover.
  • Develop and maintain project scopes, schedules, budgets, action plans, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate with operations, maintenance, quality, suppliers, and contractors to resolve technical and scheduling issues.
  • Support equipment installations, modifications, troubleshooting, trials, startups, and manufacturing process improvements.
  • Apply metallurgical principles involving steel, cast iron, alloys, heat treatment, surface treatment, forging, and casting processes.
  • Support mechanical systems such as equipment layouts, fixtures, piping, quench systems, utilities, and fluid systems.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, test results, process data, and supplier recommendations.
  • Perform root cause analysis and translate technical findings into practical corrective actions.
  • Maintain a regular shop-floor presence to understand equipment conditions, production constraints, quality concerns, and safety risks.
  • Lead meetings and follow-up activities with clearly assigned owners, deadlines, decisions, and escalation paths.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Five to seven years of experience in manufacturing, heavy industry, industrial equipment, capital projects, plant engineering, or a similar hands-on environment.
  • A two-year technical degree may be considered with seven or more years of highly relevant manufacturing and project execution experience.
  • Demonstrated experience personally driving an engineering project, equipment installation, production issue, or process improvement through completion.
  • Knowledge of project execution fundamentals, including scope, schedule, cost, risk, action tracking, escalation, and closure.
  • Experience with mechanical systems, industrial equipment, fixtures, layouts, plant utilities, or manufacturing process equipment.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, test data, process data, and supplier documentation.
  • Experience coordinating with production, maintenance, quality, suppliers, contractors, and engineering leadership.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, organization, and documentation skills.
  • Willingness to work regularly on the shop floor in a non-air-conditioned manufacturing facility while wearing required PPE.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with heat-treatment equipment, steel processing, metallurgy, casting, forging, machining, surface treatment, quench systems, or related industrial processes.
  • Experience supporting capital equipment installations, equipment relocations, plant modifications, troubleshooting, commissioning, or production launches.
  • Strong record of delivering results when information is incomplete, priorities change, or cross-functional support is delayed.
  • Ability to establish credibility and productive working relationships with operators, technicians, maintenance personnel, suppliers, and manufacturing leaders.
  • Occasional availability to travel to supplier or manufacturing locations.
Why This Role?

This position offers the opportunity to lead meaningful engineering projects that directly influence manufacturing performance, equipment reliability, product quality, and operational efficiency.
