Job summary

Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer 3. The work will be done onsite full time in Mossville, IL.

This long-term 12-month position offers a path to permanent employment with our client and compensation up to $47/hour plus full benefits. The Mechanical Engineer will support rapid design, analysis, fabrication, and testing of prototype components for electrified machinery, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and contributing to first-of-their-kind prototype

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree with preference for Mechanical, Electrical, Software/Controls, or Industrial Engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience; 9 years for two-year degree holders.
  • Hands-on mechanical and fabrication skills.
  • Experience operating CNC machinery.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, develop, manufacture, and test mechanical components, tools, machines, and prototype systems.
  • Support rapid design, analysis, and prototype manufacturing for electrified machines and systems.
  • Create and modify engineering designs using Creo, Creo Simulate, and DFMA for prototyping.
  • Operate and maintain prototyping equipment including 3D printers and CNC equipment.
  • Collaborate with multiple prototype project teams through design, build, and test phases.
  • Troubleshoot equipment, investigate failures, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Review drawings, blueprints, specs, and design proposals.
  • Track prototype inventory and assist logistics for timely delivery.

Job description

Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer 3. The work will be done onsite full time in Mossville, IL. This is a long-term, 12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $47/hour + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).

Job Summary

The Mechanical Engineer will support the rapid design, analysis, fabrication, and testing of prototype components and systems for advanced electrified machinery. This hands‑on position combines mechanical design engineering with prototype manufacturing, equipment troubleshooting, and testing in a fast‑paced development environment. The engineer will work across multiple concurrent prototype projects, collaborating with partner engineering teams from initial design through build and validation. The role provides significant exposure to first‑of‑their‑kind, high‑visibility prototype development projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research, design, develop, manufacture, and test mechanical components, tools, machines, and prototype systems.
  • Support engineering teams with rapid design, analysis, and prototype manufacturing for electrified machines and systems.
  • Create and modify engineering designs using Creo, Creo Simulate, CAD tools, and design‑for‑manufacturing/prototyping principles.
  • Operate and maintain prototyping equipment, including 3D printers, CNC cutting and milling equipment, welding equipment, and electrical cable/harness fabrication tools.
  • Support 1–3 concurrent prototype project teams through design, build, and testing phases.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and prototype systems, investigate failures, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Review engineering drawings, blueprints, technical specifications, and design proposals.
  • Track prototype inventory and provide logistics support to enable timely delivery of high‑priority projects.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to establish and improve best practices for prototype design and manufacturing.
Required Qualifications
  • Engineering education with preference for Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software/Controls Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience; candidates with a relevant two‑year degree may be considered with 9 years of applicable technical experience.
  • Hands‑on mechanical and fabrication skills.
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting CNC machinery.
  • Experience with Creo design, Creo Simulate, and DFMA/design for prototyping.
  • Ability to create engineering sketches and drawings and perform common engineering computations.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer‑generated reports.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a hands‑on shop environment and collaborate with a wide range of engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CAD/CAM experience.
  • Additive manufacturing and 3D printing experience.
  • Welding experience.
  • Machine and system diagnostic experience.
  • Experience with electrical cable or harness fabrication.
  • Experience supporting prototype development for electrified, automotive, heavy‑equipment, or other complex mechanical systems.
  • Experience developing, mentoring, or training others on best practices for design and prototype manufacturing.
