Job summary

San Bernardino County is seeking Probation Assistants to support sworn staff and handle confidential, non-sworn tasks. The role includes interviewing adult and juvenile clients, collecting information for history statements, and assisting with forms, photographs, and specimen collection as directed.

Responsibilities extend to coordinating departmental programming, tracking data, and researching services while aiding in program evaluation. Night/weekend availability may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; some coursework in criminology or related field preferred.
• Two years of full-time clerical/data entry or related public service experience, or one year in Probation Department.
• Ability to interview adults/juveniles, collect information, and maintain confidentiality.
• Background check required; polygraph may be included in the process.

Responsibilities

• Support Probation sworn staff with routine non-sworn tasks and confidential information handling.
• Interview clients referred for pretrial services, orientation or probation supervision; collect personal history data.
• Assist with forms, paperwork, photographs, urinalysis and DNA sample collection as directed.
• Coordinate, track, and research departmental programming; perform data management and documentation tasks.
• Support Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in program delivery and information collection; assist in evaluating program effectiveness.
