San Bernardino County is seeking Probation Assistants to support sworn staff and handle confidential, non-sworn tasks. The role includes interviewing adult and juvenile clients, collecting information for history statements, and assisting with forms, photographs, and specimen collection as directed.

The San Bernardino County Probation Departmentseeks Probation Assistants who support Probation sworn staff while performing a variety of routine, non-sworn support functions; maintaining confidentiality, interviewing adult and juvenile clients referred for pretrial services, orientation or probation supervision; obtaining information from clients, offenders, probationers, and family members of clients to complete family/personal history statements, face sheets or other documents, assists clients with completing necessary forms and paperwork; takes photographs and collects urinalysis and DNA specimens from clients as directed. These positions will also assist with coordination, tracking, and researching of departmental programming, services, and treatment activities while performing data management and documentation tasks. Position responsibilities also include supporting Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in program delivery through scheduling, communication, and collection of required program information and participating in the evaluation of program effectiveness.

Background: Applicants must successfully pass a background check that may include a polygraph prior to appointment.
Availability: Incumbents may be required to work nights and weekends.
Body Art Policy: While on duty, employees shall not have visible body modifications or body art, including but not limited to tattoos, piercings, stretching, branding, beading or implantation, and scarification. All body art must be completely covered while on duty by clothing, a skin-colored patch no larger than three (3) inches by three (3) inches, or skin-colored cosmetic makeup.
Travel: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Applicants must meet both the education requirement and one of the experience options.
Graduation from a U.S. high school, G.E.D. or a U.S. Department of Education approved High School Equivalency Test.
*A list of coursework in a qualifying field or legible copies of transcripts from an accredited institution (unofficial transcripts are acceptable) must be submitted with the application if qualifying under option 3. For all International Degree's, applications MUST include an international degree equivalency report attached to the application.

NOTE: The Probation Assistant classification is not a natural progression into the Probation Officer series.
