Job summary

Overland Park Regional Medical Center is seeking a PRN Registered Nurse for the Emergency Room. The RN coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in collaboration with physicians and the care team. The role requires an ADN or BSN, active RN license, and BLS/ACLS with additional certifications within designated timelines.

Minimum ER experience is 1 year; PALS is preferred. The department emphasizes compassionate care, patient advocacy, and adherence to hospital standards.

Qualifications

  • RN license in state of practice or active compact license
  • ACLS within 6 months of hire; BLS required
  • ENPC and TNCC within 6 months of hire; PALS preferred
  • 1 year ER experience required
  • Graduate from accredited nursing program (ADN/BSN)

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and deliver patient-centered care in ER.
  • Document care in patient record in a timely manner.
  • Respond promptly to patient requests and anticipate needs.
  • Educate patients and families about condition, plan, and follow-up.
  • Flexible PRN schedule: 3 shifts/month to 3 shifts/week; 12-hour shifts.

Job Summary And Qualifications

The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. In collaboration with medical providers and other members of the care team, the RN provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage." The RN serves as an advocate for patients/families/caregivers and models a commitment to the organization’s vision/mission/values to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes that contribute to overall departmental performance.

  • Assesses patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after appropriate intervention.
  • Performs procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Documents the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Performs exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests. Strives to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
  • Teaches patients/families/caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.
  • Teaches patients/families/caregivers about any non-medicinal follow-up measures, such as healthy diet and exercise, disease prevention, and/or other lifestyle changes. Prepares patients and families/caregivers for future self-management.
  • PRN Schedule: Flexible with commitment ranging from 3 shifts a month to 3 shifts a week; compensation is based on work commitment; 12-hr shifts
  • Graduate of accredited nursing school, ADN or BSN required.
  • Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice and/or has an active compact license, in accordance with law and regulation.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS required. Current AHA ACLS to be obtain within 90 days of hire; NIH Stroke training to be completed successfully within 90 days of hire; TNCC REQUIRED within 6 months of hire. ENPC REQUIRED within 6 months of hire. PALS is preferred.
  • 1-year ER experience, required.
